The Joyless Struggle

I see their faces: full of stress and strain and wear and tear.  Its enough to make me down. People watching has never been this sad.
With what, do we burden ourselves so deeply that we wear it continually on our face while is disrupts and distorts the functionality of our bodies?
We work too hard, sleep too less. Get on our grind, to hell with all the rest.
No time for maitenance, let alone meditation.
No time for fun until the work is done.
There's a deadline to meet, an objective to obtain.
So we must press on because this is what it takes.  Endless hard work and stress is what it takes to make it in the world.
Make it where? That's a question a child would ask. "To be successful," you may answer, "and to have all the things you want in life"
But if the eyes are indeed the window to the soul, then what of these people I'm seeing? Have their souls been robbed, or is this merely the wage for all they want.
Are they successful? Do they have all the things they want in life? What is successful
One lady in particular, her eyes looked droopy. You could see the weariness.
She was tired, and beaten beyond beaten.  I wondered if she knew what maitenance, let alone meditation was.
Or if she had ever relaxed a day in her life.
Then I knew, she had paid the wage of her spirit and soul,
but yet had not all the things she wanted.
But her kids were gonna eat and sleep in a bed and under a roof
and that was all of the things that mattered. She called it a success.
For today at least.
Meanwhile the body and soul, under the toil of joyless struggle, continues to slowly, slowly dysfunction. .

  1. What you said here really sounded off to me, as I have been looking at some people with the same situation. Those with jobs are so paid minimally that we have become a consumer of sachet packs and small sized products. Everything small, cause the common saleslady or construction worker can only afford soap, shampoo and cooking oil, sugar, and other stuff in small packages. Those living off the streets literally lose their minds and create their own worlds.
