Her Perfect Work
I think greatness still takes time.
I'm still a big fan on long term planning. To be fair, I kinda suck at it, but I do understand the vision. I feel like these days, we don't make much room or have much patience for a long term plan that may bring a bit of a struggle up front. But we wonder why shit seems so watered down and lame these days.
We want instant results, we live quarter to quarter - fuck that, day to day.
I was talking to a friend about team-building in sports. I told him I thought his team (not mine), Manchester United needed a 5 year plan, an understanding that it may really suck at first, but with a belief and a commitment that in 5 years, that team will be where they want to be. Of course they won't do that, in part because won't be allowed to. The world is just not patient enough to allow things to take time to develop. But growth remains a process. And it's a process that can be very difficult and painful in the beginning. It can be up and down. I think companies that live and die on the quarterly earnings report potentially rob themselves of making the kinds of investments that might kick your ass in the beginning, but in a couple years, reap incredible dividends. Looking around, I think we're surrounded by a whole lot of "good enough", but not a whole lot of "true quality". Greatness still takes time.
Ain't nobody got time for that, I know. But if you're one of those who actually does (and I do), a nice long-term developmental and growth-focused plan might be worth a shot. Don't be surprised if in 5 years, you end up well ahead.
Let patience have her perfect work.
